Vestibular Rehabilitation in Abbotsford

Vestibular Rehabilitation Treatment is also known as balance retraining therapy. If a person is suffering from balance disorders and dizziness or vertigo vestibular therapy can be a good option for him. In vestibular therapy, we focus on inner ear issues that impact the body’s balance. If you are feeling dizziness or vertigo, it can affect your daily life. It can make it difficult for you to perform even the simplest daily tasks without feeling as if you might fall over.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy is an exercise-based program. It helps in re-training the central nervous system for inner ear deficits.

At Hillcrest Physiotherapy Clinic, we provide vestibular therapy for our patients suffering from balance disorders in Abbotsford. We work with patients to redirect their brains so that they can coordinate information in a better way from their inner ear balance organs, their eyes, and their proprioceptive system. After a thorough assessment, a customized program is planned based on each patient’s issues.

Some common balance disorders that we treat through vestibular therapy include Migraines, Meniere’s disease, Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Vestibular neuritis and stroke.

Treatment at Hillcrest Physiotherapy Clinic:

A detailed history of your problem is the most important information that a physiotherapist needs to diagnose the cause of your vestibular disorder and then apply vestibular rehabilitation treatment.

Our physiotherapist will ask you to describe your vestibular symptoms in detail. After taking a detailed history our physiotherapist will then perform a physical examination.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy Exercises:

Vestibular rehabilitation therapy is a set of exercises that encourage the brain and spinal cord to make up for balance or equilibrium deficits, which occur due to inner ear or central nervous system disease or abnormality.  These exercises are designed especially for you by a physiotherapist at Hillcrest Physiotherapy Clinics who has specialized knowledge in this area.

After your complete assessment, if our physiotherapist feels that vestibular rehabilitation treatment is good for you, they will advise some exercises for you to regularly perform. These exercises will help you to reduce the symptoms and the specific vestibular problem. In addition, the exercises prescribed for you will focus on any everyday issues you are facing as a result of your symptoms

 Manual Neck Treatment:

Some patients who experience dizziness or balance issues can have problems with their necks. This problem in the neck may have developed due to a vestibular problem which may decrease head and neck movement. In these cases, our physiotherapist at HillcrestPhysiotherapy Clinic do some hands-on treatment for your neck in combination with some other Vestibular Rehabilitation exercises.

Education:

Secondary injuries due to vestibular problems can easily occur due to frequent falls. Our physiotherapist will educate you regarding simple strategies that can reduce your risk for secondary injuries. For example, our physiotherapist will advise you to use a walking aid when you are tired or in a busy environment, such as in a shopping area.
